CITY OF MALOLOS — The Provincial Government of Bulacan joined the entire nation in observing National Flag Day with a solemn and patriotic flag-raising ceremony held at the Bulacan Capitol Grounds on Wednesday (May 28).
With the theme “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan”, the program featured a ceremonial hoisting of the Philippine flag accompanied by the singing of the national anthem led by Vice Governor Alexis C. Castro and members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, along with the PGB department heads headed by Provincial Administrator Antonia V. Constantino, employees, representatives from government agencies, and civic organizations.
As a mark to the start of the nationwide observance that will run until Philippine Independence Day on June 12, Castro, on behalf of Governor Daniel R. Fernando, underscored the importance of honoring the Philippine flag as the ultimate symbol of the country’s sovereignty and freedom.
“Mabilis ang pag-unlad ng ating lalawigan. Kaya sana, mga kababayang Bulakenyo, sa kabila ng lahat ng ito, mananatili tayong may isang sandigan – ito po ang ating watawat. Sa simpleng pagtindig, pagtaas at paggalang sa ating bandila, naipapahayag natin ang isang damdaming hindi kayang tabunan ng makabagong teknolohiya o banyagang impluwensiya – ang pagkamakabayan,” the vice governor said.
The Bulacan History and Heritage Youth Society Conference will also be spearheaded by the Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office at the Nicanor Abelardo Auditorium, Hiyas ng Bulacan Cultural Center.
National Flag Day commemorates the historic moment when the Philippine flag was first raised after the victory at the Battle of Alapan in Cavite on May 28, 1898. That same flag served as a unifying emblem for the country’s struggle against colonization. (UnliNews Online)
