CITY OF MALOLOS — A total of 97 villages across eight towns and two cities in Bulacan are submerged in floods as of Wednesday morning (July 23).
The Bulacan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) reported flood depths ranging from six inches to six feet. The deepest inundation was reported in Barangay Meysulao in Calumpit town, at six feet.
Calumpit has 23 barangays affected by floods, followed by Hagonoy with 25, Paombong, 14; Bocaue, 12; Guiguinto, eight; Marilao, seven; Obando, five and San Miguel, one. Meycauayan City and San Jose del Monte City each have one affected village.
Partial damage assessments for the agriculture sector indicate significant losses: 1,347.44 hectares of rice fields affecting 1,018 farmers; 34 hectares of rice seedbeds affecting 12 farmers; 21.98 hectares of vegetable farms affecting 80 farmers; 1.2 hectares of corn fields affecting four farmers 995.23 hectares of fishponds affecting 494 fish farmers and 127 other fisherfolk.
Total agricultural losses are estimated at PHP50.958 million.
Livestock raisers reported four swine mortalities, seven goats and 308 poultry. One livestock facility was also damaged, bringing total livestock losses to PHP259,100.
The PDRRMO also reported that a barangay health worker from Meycauayan City died Tuesday after being electrocuted while going to work. (UnliNews Online)
