CAMP ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan — The quick response and remarkable courage of the personnel of the Baliwag City police resulted in the immediate arrest of a suspect involved in the attempted murder and hostage-taking that occurred at the Baliwag Public Market, Brgy. Poblacion, Baliwag City on Wednesday early morning (Aug. 13).
Based on the report of the Bulacan Police Provincial Office (PPO) information office Major Jaynalyn Udal, the incident of hostage-taking happened 1:35 a.m. while one police officer was pleading with the hostage-taker to surrender, another policeman quietly moved in from behind and, at the right moment, grabbed the suspect’s knife and placed him under arrest.
According to Major Udal, Col. Angel Garcillano, acting Bulacan police director, lauded the swift action of the Baliwag City police personnel. Their negotiation skills and tactical intervention in the hostage situation successfully disarmed and arrested the suspect without bloodshed or loss of life, leaving the hostage—a vendor—unharmed.
“Ang tapang, maagap na pag-iisip, at pagkakaisa na ipinamalas ng ating mga tauhan sa Baliwag CPS ay nagligtas sa posibleng trahedya. Ang kanilang dedikasyon sa tungkulin at pagtatalaga ng sarili upang protektahan ang buhay ay sumasalamin sa pinakamahuhusay na pagpapahalaga ng Philippine National Police,” Col. Garcillano said.
He added the he expressed hope that this incident would serve as a clear message that in Bulacan, the police will always respond swiftly and remain committed to maintaining the community’s safety.
Garcillano added that the prompt action of the Baliwag City police proves the readiness and dedication of the entire police force in the province of Bulacan to uphold peace and order in line with the Five-Minute Response Time program initiated by PNP Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III.
