SM City Baliwag, gov’t agencies collect river waste in celebration of ICC Day

CITY OF MALOLOS — In observance of the International Coastal Cleanup Day, SM City Baliwag, in collaboration with government agencies and institutions, participated in a cleanup drive along the Angat River trench located between Barangay Tibag and Barangay Poblacion, at Baliwag City in Bulacan.

Organized by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), the activity aims to increase awareness on the importance of proper waste disposal and the role of the community in the protection and conservation of wetland areas.

Together with the volunteers from SM City Baliwag, the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), and NU Baliwag, the event yielded significant results as the said groups collected the most common types of garbage found on water bodies, such as cigarette butts, food wrappers, take-out containers, metal and plastic bottle caps, fishing nets, diapers, and beverage bottles.

Waste collected during the recently concluded event will then be disposed of through the proper facilities and channels.

As part of its ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship, SM Supermalls participates in regular cleanups throughout the year and executes initiatives such as the water recycling program across all SM Malls, the Trash to Cash Recycling Market, and solar rooftops in several malls that promote the use of clean energy; the Green Film Festival features documentaries about biodiversity, climate change, and solid waste, offered for free to high school students.
