PILAR, Bataan — Residents of Barangay Ala-Uli in Pilar, Bataan, particularly local farmers, now benefit from enhanced protection against seasonal flooding with the completion of a 157-lineal-meter slope protection structure along Magsaysay Dam by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
The P9.6-million project, funded under the 2024 national budget, includes the construction of a concrete revetment and installation of pipe culverts, designed to prevent soil erosion, safeguard nearby infrastructure, and improve irrigation efficiency for surrounding farmlands.
According to Bataan 2nd District Engineer Roland Rainier Victorino, the project will significantly improve the reliability of local irrigation system by stabilizing slopes and reducing the risk of erosion.
“The area depends heavily on an efficient irrigation system, and in recent years, recurring slope erosion and instability have disrupted water flow and negatively affected crop productivity. This structure will ensure steady water delivery, enhance water retention, and minimize sediment buildup in irrigation channels,” Victorino emphasized.
The project is expected to contribute to rural economic resilience and promote food security by supporting the long-term sustainability of agricultural activities in the area.
