P2.3M worth of ‘hot meat’ confiscated, 7 arrested in Marilao

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — Authorities thwarted an attempt to distribute double-dead meat in Bulacan after intercepting two trucks loaded with approximately 12,500.8 kilograms of hot meat worth P2.3 million during a joint operation in Brgy. Sta. Rosa 1, Marilao on Wednesday evening (Aug. 20).

The operation was carried out after barangay peacekeepers on patrol discovered the illicit transfer of suspected double-dead meat from a wing van to a refrigerated truck. The incident was immediately reported to the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) and Marilao Police Station, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals.

Police Regional Office 3 Regional Director, Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio I. Peñones Jr., commended the swift action of the operatives and their partners in ensuring public safety.

“This successful operation shows the strong partnership of the PNP with local government and regulatory agencies in safeguarding the welfare of our people. PRO3 will remain vigilant against illegal practices that endanger public health and undermine consumer protection,” Peñones Jr. said.

The confiscated meat was turned over to NMIS for proper disposition, while charges for violation of R.A. No. 9296 (The Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines) are being prepared against the suspects before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor in Malolos, Bulacan. (UnliNews Online)
