Bataan fisherfolk receive livelihood support for sustainable buoy production

BALANGA CITY (PIA) — Seven fisherfolk from Barangay Sisiman in Mariveles, Bataan, received raw materials from the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) livelihood support program to produce buoys, helping them earn a steady income while practicing responsible fishing.

The initiative aims to improve the economic conditions of the beneficiaries while promoting sustainable fishing practices in the barangay.

DOLE Bataan Provincial Head Maylene Evangelista said the activity highlights the agency’s commitment to providing assistance that can increase daily catch and strengthen local livelihoods.

“Through programs like this, we continue to empower our fisherfolk and enhance livelihood opportunities within the community,” Evangelista added.

She also noted that the support complements other government efforts to develop local industries and improve quality of life of workers and their families.

The beneficiaries shared that the assistance would help them maintain a reliable source of income while ensuring their fishing practices remain environmentally responsible.

They also expressed hope that the program could be expanded to benefit more fisherfolk in the future.

DOLE’s livelihood programs form part of the national government’s broader effort to boost local industries, enhance the quality of life of Filipino workers, and promote sustainable economic growth in communities. (Rick P. Quiambao)
