CIDG seizes P700K worth of allegedly substandard mattresses in Plaridel

PLARIDEL, BULACAN — A female suspect was arrested after the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) seized 150 assorted foam mattresses worth approximately P700,000 during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Sipat, Plaridel, Bulacan on September 10, 2026.

The operation was conducted by the CIDG Bulacan Provincial Field Unit in coordination with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the local police at around 2 p.m.

Authorities said the suspect was caught selling foam mattresses allegedly lacking the minimum labeling requirements and product standards prescribed under Republic Act No. 7394, or the Consumer Act of the Philippines.

Under Section 77 of the law, consumer products are required to carry essential information such as the registered name and address of the manufacturer or importer, country of origin, date of manufacture, and material composition.

CIDG Director P/Major Gen. Robert AA Morico II emphasized that proper product labeling is essential to protect consumers and ensure that manufacturers or sellers can be traced and held accountable in case their products cause harm.

The CIDG leadership commended P/Col. Grant A Gollod, Regional Chief of CIDG Regional Field Unit 3, and the CIDG Bulacan Provincial Field Unit led by P/Maj. Domingo A Resma Jr. for the operation.

The CIDG said it will continue its crackdown on unlawful activities involving non-compliant consumer products and urged the public to report suspicious or illegal business practices to authorities.

The suspect was not identified, and the alleged violations remain subject to investigation and due process. (UnliNews Online)
