CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — Years after their music became part of the Filipino soundtrack, Orange & Lemons found themselves coming full circle by returning to the roots that helped shape their music.
Thousands of Bulakenyos gathered in front of the Provincial Capitol Building on September 11 for the Singkaban Concert to witness the band’s first appearance at the province’s “Mother of all Fiestas” celebration.
As narrated by the band’s main vocal Clem Castro in between their song performance, upon returning to the music scene, they decided to look back at where they came from and create an album that takes pride in their Bulakenyo roots.
“The La Bulaqueña song is actually about the painting of Juan Luna na nakasabit sa National Museum of Fine Arts. We even made the music video of that featuring Ms. Universe Philippines Chelsea Manalo,” Castro shared.
The album also became a tribute to the culture, language, and artistic heritage that shaped the province and the country.
Orange and Lemons brought its familiar hits to the concertgoers, performing “Abot Kamay,” “Just Like A Splendid Love Song,” “Close to You,” “La Bulaqueña,” “Ikaw Ang Aking Tahanan,” “Pinoy Ako,” “Lihim,” “Heaven Knows (This Angel Has Flown),” “Hindi Ko Sukat Akalain,” “Huwag Kang Matakot,” “Yakap sa Dilim,” and “Hanggang Kailan (Umuwi Ka Na Baby).”
Aside from the main band, the Singkaban Concert also featured two homegrown bands, Blind Stereo Moon and Lunarlights.
The last song of the Orange & Lemons, Hanggang Kailan (Umuwi Ka Na Baby) was accompanied by a fireworks display that capped off the night. (UnliNews Online)
