Vice-Mayor Dungca shares tourism plans in Bacolor, Pampanga

PAMPANGA — Bacolor Vice-Mayor Ron Earvin Dungca said the town is gradually becoming a haven for private resorts, as he revealed that the local government led by Mayor Diman Datu is set to develop a new tourism park in Barangay San Vicente.

Dungca, president of the Vice-Mayor’s League of the Philippines-Pampanga Chapter, said the tourism park is part of the local government’s initiatives to boost the tourism potential of the town.

“Private resorts have been growing in number in recent years in Bacolor. However, some of these are not registered,” he said.

He urged owners of private resorts that they must register their business to ensure safety in the community.

Dungca commended the privately-owned Nuan Farm Resort in Barangay San Vicente as one of the best examples of a regulated and duly-registered resort.

Bacolor was classified as a First-Class Municipality in December last year, which Dungca said is as major development that should be used to boost the town and encourage economic development.

Dungca added that Bacolor is rich in history, art and culture, having once been a temporary capital of the Philippines and is known as the Athens of the Philippines because of its skilled sculptors and artisans.

It is the home of the must-visit San Guillermo Church, a cornerstone of faith of the Bacolor community, which was half-buried by lahar following the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991, which Dungca said is not only a symbol of faith but also the resilience of the people of Bacolor.

He said they will be tying up with the Pampanga State University (formerly DHVSU) to involve the youth in tourism.

He also said that a lot of activities are lined-up in the town, including the La Naval de Bacolor Fiesta, Makatapak Festival, Mutya ning Bacolor
