CAMP OLIVAS, City of San Fernando, Pampanga — Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) joined the nation on Sunday, (January 25), in commemorating the heroism and supreme sacrifice of the 44 Special Action Force (SAF) troopers who lost their lives during the 2015 Mamasapano clash in Maguindanao.

A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held at the PRO3 Heroes’ Monument at exactly 8 a.m. with PRO3 Director P/ Brig. Gen Ponce Rogelio I Peñones Jr together with the other members of the PRO3 Command Group and Regional Staff.

The activity paid tribute to the courage, valor, and selfless service of the fallen SAF 44, whose legacy continues to inspire the Philippine National Police.

The commemoration was observed pursuant to Proclamation No. 164 issued by Rodrigo Duterte, declaring January 25 of every year as the Day of National Remembrance for the SAF 44.

A key highlight of the ceremony was the reading of the Chief, PNP’s message by Peñones Jr, conveying the message of P/Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. In the message, the Acting Chief, PNP emphasized that the sacrifice of the SAF 44 remains a continuing challenge and reminder for every police officer to uphold courage, integrity, and commitment to duty.

“Ang kanilang sakripisyo ay hindi kailanman mawawalan ng saysay. Ito ang nagpapaalala sa atin kung bakit tayo nanunumpa at patuloy na naglilingkod,” the message read.

The same commemorative rites were conducted simultaneously in all police units nationwide, reaffirming the PNP’s enduring respect for the SAF 44 and its unwavering commitment to honor their memory through faithful service to the Filipino people. (UnliNews Online)
