CITY OF MALOLOS — A massive 10-foot-diameter pastillas took center stage during the Bestival Feast, a special showcase of Bulacan’s best local flavors, held at SM City Baliwag on Sunday (August 23) as part of SM’s Celebrate Bestival campaign.
The team of Cristy’s Pastillas, a homegrown brand from San Miguel, Bulacan, used at least 180 liters of pure carabao’s milk to create the giant pastillas. The impressive culinary showcase yielded 4,000 servings, which were distributed for free to shoppers, giving them a taste of one of Bulacan’s beloved local delicacies.
Pastillas, also known as pastillas de leche, is a well-loved milk-based confection from Bulacan, traditionally enjoyed as a dessert or after-meal treat. Available in various forms, including soft, hard, toasted, and filled pastillas, the delicacy continues to reflect Bulacan’s rich culinary heritage. Traditionally made using carabao’s or cow’s milk, pastillas remains a favorite among locals and tourists alike.
Following the unveiling of the giant pastillas, Joy Joaquin of Borlas de Mayumo, one of the local shops that creates Borlas de Pastillas—also known as pabalat, the traditional paper-cutting heritage art of San Miguel, Bulacan—led a pastillas-wrapping demonstration for selected students from Baliwag North Central School and Baliwag South Central School.
Beyond the giant food showcase, SM’s celebration of Bulacan’s local flavors continues at SM City Marilao, SM City Baliwag, and SM Center Pulilan through Bestival Foodie Deals, featuring a selection of provincial specialties and homegrown products.
The initiative highlights local MSMEs and their exclusive offerings and promos while helping showcase and preserve Bulacan’s rich culinary traditions. (UnliNews Online)
