CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — The Environmental Management Bureau Region III conducted a youth forum titled “Kabataan para sa Kalikasan: A Youth-Empowering Seminar on Environmental Awareness” at St. Scholastica’s Academy Pampanga recently.
The activity aimed to enhance the awareness of more than 200 Grade 10 students on key environmental issues while encouraging them to adopt environmentally responsible practices such as reducing waste, conserving energy, and protecting natural resources.
In her opening message, High School Principal Ms. Julieta M. Tayag encouraged the students to uphold environmental stewardship as part of their commitment to caring for creation.
“May you live out the Benedictine stewardship with conviction, seeing the environment not just as a responsibility, but also a sacred mission. May this activity empower us to live out the theme, ‘Kabataan para sa Kabataan,'” said Ms. Tayag.
The seminar featured three informative lectures delivered by the Bureau’s personnel. Ms. Valerie P. Cagas of the Water and Air Quality Monitoring Section discussed Environmental Science, highlighting current environmental challenges and emerging opportunities in green jobs.
Meanwhile, Ms. Cyrill S. Morgia of the Manila Bay Coordinating Unit delivered a lecture on marine plastic pollution. Her lecture focused on the impacts of marine litter on human health and marine ecosystems, as well as the importance of responsible waste management.
The final session on climate change was facilitated by Mr. Peniel Andrei P. Luciano, Chief of the Environmental Education and Information Unit, who discussed the causes and impacts of climate change and underscored the vital role of the youth in climate action and environmental conservation.
Through initiatives such as this forum, the Bureau continues to strengthen environmental awareness among the youth and empower the next generation to become active partners in promoting sustainability and protecting the country’s environment and natural resources.
