CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — For the second consecutive year, the Municipality of Guiguinto has proven its performance level stands above the rest, securing a back-to-back victory among 13 contenders at the Indakan sa Kalye 2026 held on September 14 as part of the Singkaban Festival 2026.
Guiguinto once again claimed the grand title with P130,000 cash prize and a trophy, while also dominating the special awards by bagging both Best in Street Dancing and Best in Costume awards, which came with an additional P20,000 each.
Following their win, Guiguinto’s Artistic Director Russel Valenzuela expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the recognition.
“Sobrang hirap ng training, sobrang nakakapagod, kasi ang goal po namin is mag back-to-back champion kami, and thank God nangyari siya ngayong araw,” Valenzuela stated.
With equally amazing showmanship, the Municipality of San Rafael came in second place, taking home P90,000 and a trophy, and the Municipality of Hagonoy at third place, with P70,000 and a trophy, while the Municipalities of Marilao, Santa Maria and Norzagaray won consolation prizes with P25,000 each and trophies.
Organized by the Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office (PHACTO), the annual cultural spectacle was highlighted by vibrant costumes, synchronized choreography, and powerful performances that brought Bulacan’s history, identity, and traditions to life through dance.
The street parade kicked off at Republica Park near the Malolos City Hall Complex, where around 1,300 dancers and propsmen from across Bulacan’s cities and municipalities danced to “Makulay na Bulakenyo.” The procession made its way along MacArthur Highway before culminating in front of the Provincial Capitol Building, seamlessly transitioning into the Showdown Competition at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium.
Performances during the showdown were evaluated based on choreography, execution, performance, theme, and concept, while criteria for street dancing focused on costume creativity and color, movement consistency, and overall performance.
The significance of the celebration was underscored by Governor Daniel R. Fernando, through Consultant Crispin De Luna, who described Indakan sa Kalye as a vibrant expression of Bulacan’s culture and history—far beyond a mere competition—that keeps local traditions alive for future generations.
“Umaasa ako na araw-araw nating ipagdiriwang ang ating mayamang sining at kalinangan, magkaisa tayong payabungin ang mga pamana ng ating lahi at itaguyod ang isang maunlad, matatag at mapayapang Bulacan para sa kasalukuyan at susunod pang henerasyon,” De Luna said. (UnliNews Online)
