CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — A total of 250 fruit-bearing seedlings were planted in Norzagaray, Bulacan, through a partnership between the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Central Luzon, the Briquettors Association of the Philippines, Inc. (BAPI), and Radio Mindanao Networks (RMN) Foundation.
The initiative aims to expand green spaces, promote environmental sustainability, and strengthen long-term food security through the planting of fruit-bearing trees.
The project also highlights the importance of collaboration among government agencies, private organizations, and media institutions in advancing environmental protection and supporting sustainable community development.
Jeffrey Francisco, head of the DENR Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Guiguinto, underscored the potential of fruit-bearing trees, particularly “langka,” to support food security by providing a source of food for communities once the trees mature and bear fruit.
He also noted their role in increasing vegetation cover and providing food and habitat for wildlife, which can help sustain local ecosystems.
DENR Regional Executive Director Ralph Pablo emphasized the importance of collaboration among the government, private sector, and communities in advancing environmental protection and restoration.
“The private sector, communities, and the government must all work together to protect and restore our environment. Through projects like this, we strengthen our shared responsibility to conserve natural resources and build a greener future for the next generations,” Pablo ended.
Sixty-three participants from BAPI, RMN Foundation, DENR Central Office, and CENRO Guiguinto joined the tree-planting activity at Sitio Suha, Barangay San Mateo. (UnliNews Online)
