DMW, Bulacan PESO managers join forces to amplify OFW protection and employment services

CITY OF MALOLOS — The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Bulacan PESO Managers Association, Inc. (BPMAI) convened a strategic dialogue to shield Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and elevate local employment services, on Tuesday (July 14) at the Francisco Balagtas Hall, Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center.

The meeting brought together Public Employment Service Office (PESO) managers from various local government units across the province to discuss initiatives aimed at reinforcing migrant worker programs, eradicating illegal recruitment, and streamlining access to vital employment-related services.

Recognizing Bulacan as the province with the highest concentration of OFWs in Central Luzon, DMW Regional Director Atty. Marion S. Sevilla presented the agency’s latest initiatives, highlighting among these is a proposed convergence through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the DMW and local government units through the PESO managers.

Under this proposed MOA, PESO managers will spearhead a comprehensive OFW mapping initiative across Bulacan wherein this localized data-gathering effort will establish and maintain updated registries of overseas workers in their respective communities, allowing the government to pinpoint vulnerable individuals who require immediate intervention and proactively shield them from the threats of illegal recruitment.

An open forum was also conducted following the discussion, providing PESO managers with the opportunity to raise inquiries and seek clarifications directly from officials of the DMW regarding program implementations, anti-illegal recruitment initiatives, and employment facilitation, ensuring that migrant worker assistance is seamlessly executed right at the local level.
