CITY OF MALOLOS — Disasters strike without warning, but Bulacan’s first responders are sharpening their edge to keep communities safe by bringing together local disaster risk reduction teams from across the province and engaged them in an activity dubbed as the 14th Bulacan Rescue Olympics.
The rescue competition was conducted by the Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB) through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) recently at The Greenery in the City of Baliwag.
The annual competition aims to enhance the preparedness, coordination, and operational capabilities of the rescue teams by testing their knowledge, technical skills, and teamwork in simulated emergency response scenarios.
All the participating teams who competed in various events demonstrated their competence in responding to different disaster and emergency situations while promoting camaraderie and collaboration among local disaster response teams.
Emerging as the Overall Champion was Cluster Team 7 consisting of DRRMOs from Bustos, San Rafael, and the City of Baliwag, who received a plaque, 1 set of MCI Kit, 1 rescue helmet, 5 pcs of Aerosol-Based Fire Extinguishing Sprays, and 8 pcs of cadaver bag.
Cluster Team 4 consisting of DRRMOs from Santa Maria, Bocaue, and Pandi got 1st place, and took home a plaque, 1 set of MCI Kit, 1 pc of rescue helmet, 3 pcs of Aerosol-Based Fire Extinguishing Sprays, and 8 pcs cadaver bag.
While the Cluster Team 8 with the DRRMOs from Calumpit, Plaridel, and Pulilan finished as 2nd place and also got a plaque, 1 set of MCI Kit, 8 pcs of cadaver bag, and 1 pc of Aerosol-Based Fire Extinguishing Sprays.
Governor Daniel R. Fernando emphasized that disaster preparedness remains one of the PGB’s top priorities, noting that investing in the skills and readiness of rescue personnel is essential to protecting the lives and welfare of Bulakenyos.
“Sa pamamagitan ng pagsasagawa ng Bulacan Rescue Olympics, patuloy nating pinatitibay ang kakayahan ng ating responders upang matiyak na ang bawat Bulakenyo ay may maaasahang tulong sa oras ng pangangailangan. Ang bawat pagsasanay at bawat kumpetisyon ay isang hakbang tungo sa mas ligtas, mas matatag, at mas handang Bulacan,” the governor said. (UnliNews Online)
