BOCAUE, Bulacan — Two suspects were arrested after CIDG operatives raided a warehouse in Barangay Batia and seized 80,800 allegedly counterfeit rice sacks worth P800,000, bearing various brands allegedly involved in copyright and trademark infringement.
The operation was carried out at around 2 p.m. on September 21, 2026, by the CIDG Bulacan Provincial Field Unit, with representatives from Goldman Sack Manufacturing Corporation and in coordination with local police units, following the implementation of a search warrant for alleged violations of Republic Act No. 8293, or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.
In a report that submitted to the CIDG Director, P/Maj. Gen. Robert AA Morico II, it stated that the two suspects— a male Chinese national, the warehouse operator, and a Filipina employee, were arrested for storing, in possession and control, and trading the sacks without the authority of the trademark owner.
The CIDG Director emphasized that the primary purpose of Republic Act No. 8293, also known as the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines, is to protect and secure the exclusive rights of scientists, inventors, artists, and other gifted citizens to their intellectual property and creations, particularly when it is beneficial to the people. He further stressed that it is the policy of the State to strengthen the enforcement of intellectual property laws and related regulations throughout the Philippines.
The arrested suspects will be charged before the National Prosecution Service with violations of Section 168 (Unfair Competition, Rights, Regulation and Remedies) in relation to Section 170 and Section 177 (Copyright or Economic Rights) of Republic Act 8293 (Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines).
