THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Bataan 1st District Engineering Office (DEO) has announced the completion of a 266.42-lineal meter, 3.25-meter-high flood control structure along the Sapang Balsik, a tributary of the Almacen River in the town of Hermosa.
“The project is the first of its kind along this tributary, and we are proposing funding to build additional flood mitigation structures to reinforce the banks of Sapang Balsik. Our simple aim is to protect villages and nearby rice fields from potential flooding,”” District Engineer Erlindo Flores, Jr., said.
Flores added that the recently completed project is part of a plan to build river walls in the tributaries of the Almacen River, addressing the issue of frequent overflow during the rainy season and enhancing the safety of residents in low-lying areas.
He further explained that this infrastructure development, with a budget of P48.99 million, not only promises a safer environment for residents but also sets the stage for enhanced agricultural productivity.
It was also disclosed that the district office plans to develop the structures into road dikes, thereby facilitating improved mobility in the area. (UnliNews Online)
