President Marcos Jr.: Remain calm.

THE shooting incident at the Senate on Wednesday evening drew national concern. In response, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. addressed the public, providing updates and urging calm. As the nation processes these events, it is imperative to heed his call while prioritizing a thorough pursuit of the truth.

The President’s statement offered essential clarity during this period of uncertainty. He detailed his immediate response to the incident, noting that he contacted key officials from the DILG and NBI upon learning of the situation. He clarified that no instructions were issued to arrest any senator, explaining that the uniformed personnel present were on regular duty—either PNP officers assigned to secure the premises or permanent Marine detachment members. He further noted that the armed individuals in civilian clothes were part of the Senate’s Sergeant-at-Arms team.

For many Filipinos, such news understandably triggers worry or frustration. The Senate symbolizes our democracy; its disruption affects us all. As the President emphasized, this is not the time for speculation or division. Panic hinders the pursuit of truth; instead, we must support thorough investigations by the PNP and Senate authorities.

These investigations are critical to determining whether this confrontation was an isolated event or a broader concern. They will ensure accountability and the implementation of measures to prevent future occurrences. Our institutions exist to maintain order and protect the public; we must allow them the necessary time and space to conduct their work.

Tsk! Tsk! Tsk! This incident underscores that, even within a democracy, maintaining safety and order requires both vigilance and patience. President Marcos Jr.’s focus on calm and transparency is a positive step, but our responsibility as citizens remains.

We must avoid spreading unconfirmed information, support efforts to uncover the truth, and stand together as a nation. By remaining calm, staying informed, and trusting in thorough investigation and justice, we will find the necessary answers. Although the path forward may be uncertain, prioritizing truth and unity will ensure our institutions remain strong and our people safe. (UnliNews Online)
