“When the leaders of legal institutions are selected by a small circle of powerful figures rather than the public, trust erodes and accountability vanishes. As cases languish and wrongdoers escape consequences, citizens question whether justice is attainable.”

The core issue lies in the selection process. Rather than appointments based on political ties or personal alliances, the system should require that the public choose those who safeguard the law.

Through democratic suffrage, citizens could elect qualified individuals of proven integrity committed to the public good. This shift would transform the justice system, ensuring authorities are accountable to all Filipinos rather than their appointees.

Consequently, decisions would be rendered with fairness and efficiency, as leaders would remain directly answerable to the electorate. We would no longer experience delays or biases favoring the powerful; instead, we would build a system rooted in trust, transparency, and our nation’s shared values.

Tsk! Tsk! Tsk! True change occurs only when justice rests in the hands of those it serves. It is time for every Filipino to participate in shaping the fairness we all deserve. (UnliNews Online)
