CAMP GEN. ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan — Operatives of the San Rafael Municipal Police Station (MPS) seized an estimated P915,000 worth of smuggled and counterfeit cigarettes during Frog Leap “Oplan Sita” in Brgy. Pinac-pinacan, San Rafael, Bulacan on Wednesday (April 8).
Based on the report Thursday, Lt. Col. Protom E. Guevarra, Chief of Police of the San Rafael MPS, identified the arrested suspect as alias Berto, 48 years old, resident of Gen. T. De Leon, Valenzuela City.
While conducting the Frog Leap Oplan Sita, San Rafael police stopped a Toyota Hi Ace van for routine verification. During the inspection, the police noticed boxes of cigarettes inside the vehicle when the driver voluntarily opened its door. Upon verification, it was found that these were smuggled or counterfeit cigarettes.
Sixty-one boxes of various brands of cigarettes with a total value of approximately P915,000.00 were seized from the suspect, along with a Toyota Hi Ace van used to transport the said products.
The suspect and the confiscated evidence were brought to the San Rafael police station for proper documentation while preparations are being made to file cases for violations of Republic Act 10863 (Customs Modernization and Tariff Act), Republic Act 10643 (Graphic Health Warning Law), Republic Act 7394 (Consumer Act of the Philippines), and the National Internal Revenue Code of 1997.
Col. Jay B. Baybayan, Officer-in-Charge of the Bulacan Police Provincial Office, commended the continuous implementation of police checkpoints and Oplan Sita, which serve as means to prevent the entry and distribution of illegal products in the province of Bulacan. (UnliNews Online)
