DENR backs community-driven environmental action in Cabanatuan

CABANATUAN City — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Central Luzon continues to support local government-led environmental initiatives, as it recently joined the City Government of Cabanatuan in recognizing barangays and partner institutions that have demonstrated exemplary efforts in environmental protection, proper waste management, and community cleanliness through the 2025 Clean! Clean! Clean! Awarding Ceremony.

As one of the program’s partner agencies, DENR worked alongside the Department of the Interior and Local Government, the Department of Education, the City Environment and Natural Resources Office, and other stakeholders in validating participating barangays using established environmental performance indicators.

DENR Regional Executive Director Ralph Pablo underscored the importance of sustained collaboration among local governments, national government agencies, and communities in advancing environmental stewardship.

“The success of this initiative shows that protecting the environment starts in our local communities. When citizens, national government agencies, barangays, and local government units work together, we can create lasting solutions that benefit both people and the environment,” Pablo said.

Pablo said that initiatives such as the Clean! Clean! Clean! Program demonstrate how community participation can translate environmental policies into meaningful action at the grassroots level, adding that the DENR remains committed to supporting local governments through technical assistance, partnerships, and programs that promote responsible waste management, environmental conservation, and active citizen engagement.

The recognition program forms part of the City Government of Cabanatuan’s flagship “My Cabanatuan Advocacy: A Cleaner and Greener City” initiative, which encourages barangays to maintain clean and healthy communities, strengthen solid and liquid waste management practices, and foster greater public participation in environmental protection.
