Police chief in Bulacan town killed in armed encounter

CAMP ALEJO SANTOS — The police chief of San Miguel, Bulacan was killed during an armed encounter with riding in tandem robbers in Brgy Bohol na Mangga, San Ildefonso, Bulacan on Saturday night.

Reaching reports to Col. Relly Arnedo, Bulacan provincial director,  around 10 p.m. on Saturday, a report was received by San Miguel police station regarding an alleged robbery that transpired in Brgy. San Juan, San Miguel, Bulacan.  

Operatives of San Miguel police led by P/Lt. Col. Marlon Serna immediately proceeded at the scene to verify,  conduct follow up investigation and hot pursuit for possible identification and arrest of the suspects. 

“Upon reaching the dark portion of Brgy Bohol na Mangga, San Ildefonso, Bulacan  responding team chanced upon two unidentified suspects onboard a  Mio motorcycle who opened fire on the responding team hitting chief of police on his head and injured of Jay Jay Gabriel y Dela Cruz, a 17-year-old resident of Brgy. Soledad, Sta Rosa, Nueva Ecija,” Arnedo in his statement.

He added Serna was quickly rushed to Emmanuel Hospital but died while being treated. The suspects fled towards Brgy Akle, San Ildefonso, Bulacan.

Meanwhile,  a few hours after the incident, Central Luzon Police Director Brig. Gen. Jose S. Hidalgo Jr., has ordered Bulacan Police to conduct  an in-depth and thorough investigation to fast track the solution of the murder of the Chief of Police of  San Miguel Police Station.

Brig. Gen.Hidalgo said that no stone will be left unturned and authorities are exerting all efforts for the swift justice of the slain cop.

“This is unfortunate news for us as one of our members was killed in line with our diligent efforts to arrest lawless elements and while nothing can make up for his loss, along with our deepest condolences, we assure his bereaved family that they will get the necessary benefits that is due for  them. Still, we are committed in our fight against all forms of criminality and we will continue to be relentless in our campaign at all costs,” Hidalgo said.

The Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Atty. Benjamin Abalos is offering a reward of Php 500, 000.00, Police Regional Office 3 Director, Brig  Gen. Jose S. Hidalgo Jr., is offering a reward of Php 300,000.00, Php 200,000.00 from Bulacan Governor Daniel R Fernando and Php 200,000.00 from PNP for a total of Php 1,200,000.00 for anyone who can provide information that could lead to their arrest.

The PNP extends its condolences to the family and loved ones of Lt. Col Serna, who bravely served and protected the community. The PNP also wishes for the speedy recovery of Jay Jay Gabriel y Dela Cruz, who was injured in the incident.
