Justice Chief Remulla orders NBI to investigate latest media killing

JUSTICE Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to look into the killing of radio broadcaster Cresenciano Bunduquin who was gunned down in Oriental Mindoro on Wednesday, May 31.

“We’re asking the NBI to look into it, this killing, because we want to know the motives,” Remulla said in a press conference Thursday (June 1).

The secretary noted “marami na kami mga leads kung ano ang mga motivations na pwede nangyari, kung bakit marahil pinatay itong tao na ito.”

Remulla said he gave the order for the NBI to conduct the probe based on the request of Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) Executive Director Paul Gutierrez.

“That is the job of the PTFoMS to make sure that the media feel secure about your jobs,” said Remulla who met Guteirrez Wednesday.

“And our job also is to make sure that this is not repeated,” he added.

The victim was opening his sari-sari store in Calapan City when he was shot by two gunmen.

“Ang alam natin hinabol ng anak ‘yung salarin, napatay niya ‘yung isa, ‘yung isa nakatakas, nakuha nila ‘yung ID. Mukhang gun for hire,” Remulla noted.

“Kung sino umupa sa kanila dapat malaman natin,” he assured.
