Bulacan’s major roads passable, flood-free amid Typhoon Uwan

CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — Bulacan’s major road thoroughfares remain passable and free from flooding amid the onslaught of Typhoon Uwan.

Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDDRMO) Head Manuel Lukban reported that the province was spared from severe effects of the typhoon.

He noted that while several of these road networks were submerged during previous weather disturbances, they remained clear this time.

All types of vehicles can pass through Manila North Road from Calumpit to Meycauayan City, Daang Maharlika from San Miguel to Guiguinto, and Paseo Del Congreso in downtown Malolos.

With roads accessible, public transportation services have likewise returned to normal, including buses, mini-buses, modern jeepneys, and traditional jeepneys.

However, the Calizon-Bulusan section of the Calumpit-Hagonoy provincial road is currently submerged in knee-deep floodwaters due to the overflowing of the nearby Pampanga River, making it difficult for light vehicles to pass.

Bulakan-bound buses can still pass through the flooded Guiguinto-Balagtas-Bulakan provincial road as high tide conditions persist.

Lukban also reported that minimal flooding across the province was achieved through the coordinated management of dam releases. The effort involved the Provincial Government of Bulacan, the National Power Corporation for Angat Dam, Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System for Ipo Dam, and the National Irrigation Administration for Bustos Dam.

Typhoon Uwan left Bulacan with 210 meters of water impounded in Angat Dam, 100.53 meters in Ipo Dam in Norzagaray, and 16.08 meters in Bustos Dam. (PIA Bulacan)
