Police arrest Chinese national for selling fake iPhones

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — Angeles City police apprehended a Chinese national for his involvement in the sale of counterfeit smartphones in Angeles City on Tuesday (June 20).

PRO3 Director p/Brig. Gen. Jose S. Hidalgo Jr. identified the arrested individual as Zeng Yunshi, a Chinese national, 49 years old, and temporarily residing at Metro Manila who was arrested by operatives of Angeles City Station 3 through an entrapment operation conducted in front of Jaoville Compound, Brgy. Pandan, Angeles City for Estafa.

Investigation showed that “Rachell” purchased a brand new iPhone 14 Pro Max from Zeng for P11,000.00. However, upon checking, the victim found out that it was not original but only a clone. The former tried to reach out to ZENG but received no response, which prompted her to report the fraudulent transaction to authorities.

An entrapment operation was launched wherein “Jess”, the victim’s friend bought another phone from Zeng and agreed to meet in front of Jaoville where the suspect was arrested by the operating team.

Pertinent documents were already being readied against the suspect for court referral.

Hidalgo added that PRO3 will continue to monitor these types of illegal activities and will work tirelessly to guarantee that those who want to sabotage the economy are prevented from committing crimes. (UnliNews Online)
